Total 40 Hours

Here I actually spend most of my time on digitalize my artwork therefore I manage to design my character into something different.

[UPDATE] Flow Chart

The latest flow chart, I put in the decision to give choice to audience and both link it to the same ending.

Sketch to Digital

In my sketches, all are simple and rough line but when come to digital, I added the background so that it will not be plain. However some of the scene is static and background doesn't show much interesting graphic.

Additional Scene

I did some additional scene to give a proper ending.

Facing An Error

After almost complete the entire design, I put a rest. However, when I return back to my work, error appears

About more than half of the graphic, Adobe Illustrator was not able to read. Nevertheless, I was able to cover up with the remaining 1 hour I had since I know how the sequence of the graphics is.

Character Development

Human character

Above image are the character development. The 2nd draft was much better than the 1st one cause 1st draft character look stiff, no proportion and "not alive" therefore in 2nd draft, character look more "lively" and is more alike from sketches. I would even want to refine IF time is still available within the 40 hours.

Colors
For the colors it took me some time to decide on it. In image 1st draft, I put it in all blue and it is not a good choice which makes the character feel dull. On the other side, character seems to have their personality, however it is still lack of lighting and shades.

Animal Character

Character development of animal. In my previous blog entry I stated the 1st and 2nd draft. Because of consistency to my character and background, I decided to change the eye for the character for this reason.

Mood

Mood for the background, I want it to follow according to the mood of the scene. In this three scene I want to make it as they are carefree and the mouse trap is non of their concern.
The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The pig sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.”

The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.”

Art Style Research- Chibi Style

I decided to do Chibi art style for my Competition,Festival, Exhibition's project 2. I am more comfortable in my this art style as I always frequently draw chibi character.
"Chibi (ちび or チビ) is a Japanese slang word meaning "short person" or "small child." The word has gained currency amongst fans of manga and anime. Its meaning is of someone or some animal that is small. It can be translated as "little," but is not used the same way as chiisana [小さな] (tiny, small, little in Japanese) but rather cute. In English-speaking anime and manga fandom (otaku), the term chibi has mostly been conflated with the "super deformed" style of drawing characters with oversized heads or it can be used to describe child versions of characters.Chibi style is usually used in depicting scenes which are cute and/or humorous, and it is extremely rare for it to be used for an entire anime series."

I was influence by this anime that I use to watch back few years ago.
This is my strongest style and most comfortable in drawing. Bottom are my drawing are my art style.
However, after the drawing, I having hard time to make into digitize image in Adobe Illustrator. The drawing will not feel the same like how I draw. Bottom image is the example of my style convert into digital. The part of the digital does not match the drawing because I was experimenting it with simple tools. At the end of my conclusion, it is how I use my pen tool to accurately trace back my work and also depending on the colors.

Research

Chibi Shiro is Not Amused by Chibi--Shiro
In this art style, specially the color is simple with a bit of gradient and thickness of the line is very consistence. There is no tine and thick lines.

Chibi Machii by Yamio
I like the way of the color combination. Although the dark purple is a dull color but with the mixture of the gradient and shading makes the different. It has the feeling of dreamy kind. However, time consume and also it is not consistence with the vector character.

Another In Canada by CookieHideki
A vector art which is close and similar to what I am doing. Therefore, this is part of my art style I want to put in, but there is difference between my animal character that they had hard thick and thin lines and also the shades are quite different from here.

Chibi USXUK by Ivoryness
In this style, there is water color texture and outlines with "stitching" as outline and a little bit of sketching. I like the way specially the heart shape it is "sketchy" and the "stitching" part as an outline of the character rather than just solid hard lines with different thickness. However same issue is consistency to my vector character.

Mighty Boosh Character Design by SirLemoncurd
In this character design, there is no outline but the part I like is the curls this artist did. The proportion of the character is very much different from the rest. However, again factor as the rest that, there is not consistency at all.

Vector Characters by Pixelflakes
In this character design, this artist is design the animal in simple way. Proportion of the animal and clowns are very random.
Chibi FireNation Children by Kelly 1412
I like the way how this artist way of the color. It use gradient and also shading. However, it is not consistence to my character design.

As A Conclusion,

I have to reconsider my animal character, which means the style to put the color. Either, I have to change my character line thickness or no line and all have to depend on the background image too

Actionscript 3.0- Coding (test run)

I tested on the actionscript 3.0 in Adobe Flash. I came out a few button problem.

1. User can click any of the button then it will be disable.
2. I want all 3 button can link to next action.

These are the 2 things I have not found out but I manage to put in a temporarily codes but does not works how I want it to be.

Before I had this problem, I came across a problem that my button can not link to my the other scene. I was able to solve it, when I was asking Karen Wong about my problem. As I was responding Karen's question, I realize I did a big careless mistake. (Below screenshot) I realize I did not create MovieClips.

Characters Design

1st Draft of Character Design, I stated inside the Statement of Intent. I feel all of the character is very plain and as for character the farmer does not turn out what I expect from it. I decided to re do the characters.

Outcome
Below are the new and improve character design. I like this way but another think that I have to reconsider is whether can my character for the Farmer and his wife. It must be consistence to one another and the scene too.

The Mouse Trap (Original Storyline)

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. “What food might this contain?” the mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The pig sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.”

The mouse turned to the cow and said, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.”

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house – like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient. But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember, when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. Each of us is a vital thread in another person’s tapestry.
